St Andrew’s and St Leonard’s Churches in Deal are seeking a Children and Families’ Lay Minister. 21-23k per annum depending on qualifications and experience. St Andrew’s is a stand alone parish in North Deal. St Leonard’s is a four-church benefice encompassing Upper Deal and two bordering villages. A broad range of churchmanship is represented.
The role is 35 hours per week to be shared across St Andrew’s Parish and St Leonard’s Benefice with 15 hours at each and 5 hours to respond to specific needs. Some working hours will be at evenings and weekends, including regular Sunday mornings.
The churches are seeking to recruit a passionate Christian worker who will be adaptable to this variety of worship centred on the Eucharist, with a track record of ministering effectively to children and families. You will be able to think creatively and have the initiative to help clergy and lay volunteers to develop a strategy for growing groups of children and families in the five churches.
You will support existing activities in the churches such as Messy Church, Parents and Toddlers, Holiday activities and Saturday football. You will strengthen links in the wider community through engagement with schools in the parishes and local community centres and actively support the growth of leaders. Three other churches in the Deanery employ Children and Families’ workers and you will be encouraged to meet up regularly to support one another.
Due to the religious nature and context of the work, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the jobholder to be a Christian. Enhanced DBS check required.
